Premier League Predicted Starting XI: Nottingham Forest
Find below all the details on how we think Notts Forest will lineup this season. This is subject to change based on new signings and pre-season friendly data, of course.
Nottingham Forest Predicted Starting Lineup: Graphical View
After losing many key players to expiring loans at the end of last season, Forest have set out to replace nearly half their starting XI. As such, the team may take some time to gel and the starting XI to truly settle, but we'll take our best stab at it here. They do not have a ton of attacking depth, so Brennan Johnson, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Jesse Lingard are practically guaranteed to be the attacking trident almost every game. Similarly in central midfield, Ryan Yates will likely be paired with 1 of the new signings. Either Lewis O'Brien or Orel Mangala will likely be responsible for box to box play. Cafu and Jack Colback could have a part to play early season as well, considering their familiarty with Cooper's preferred system, and their form (particularly Cafu's) in preseasons. If Forest make yet another signing in the coming weeks, it'll likely be in central mid, offering a strong defensive mid type to compete with Yates for starts (or enable a 3 man midfield formation). The wing backs will likely be filled from 2 of 4 new signings. Neco Williams and Omar Richards are likely the preferred pairing, but Richards has a hairline fracture in his leg so will be out for many weeks. Toffolo is likely the benefactor as a traditional LWB, but Biancone's versatility may see him play some wing back as well (possibly on the right with Neco shifting to the left as we've seen in preseason). Jack Colback also played on the left a bit towards the end of last season, but he may be needed in central mid to start the season. The center backs are where there's probably the most uncertainty for who will start. McKenna, Cook and Worrall were the preferred trio last season, but new signing Moussa Niakhate looks likely to steal one of their places. Who exactly that will be remains a mystery, but my money is on Steve Cook mostly losing out at the minute. Biancone can also play RCB, so he's a threat to steal minutes as well if Forest go on a poor run.
