Premier League Predicted Starting XI: Liverpool
Find below all the details on how we think Liverpool will lineup this season. This is subject to change based on new signings and pre-season friendly data, of course.
Liverpool Predicted Starting Lineup: Graphical View
Liverpool moved quickly in the summer transfer window to bring in Darwin Núñez, who will face a fight with Jota for the central striker role. Núñez should make this his own come the 2nd half of the season but we could see plenty of rotation in that position with Firmino also in contention. Diaz looks to have nailed down the left forward spot, both Jota and Núñez (who has played off the left for Benfica at times) can provide back up for him. The midfield is unchanged, however Thiago and Henderson's age and injury record should see a good amount of rotation in this area. Naby Keita will be first choice back up, while Jones, Milner and Elliot should see a decent amount of game time when required. It remains to be seen how Klopp will utilise new signing Fabio Carvalho, who primarily played as an attacking midfielder for Fulham, but will likely be limited to sub appearances in his first season. Just the one new signing in defence with youngster Calvin Ramsay coming in to provide back up at right back. However, the biggest questions mark lies in who will get the majority of starts next to Van Dijk at centre back. Matip was favoured in the league last season with Konate used in the cups, but with a year under his belt we could see Konate claim a bigger role in the league this coming season.
While Klopp has favoured 4-3-3 in his time at Liverpool, we saw 4-2-3-1 being used occasionally at the end of the last campaign. This could fit well with a more traditional no.9 in Núñez and FIrmino in the hole behind (a position that new signing Fabio Carvalho excelled in at Fulham last season). Keep an eye out for pre-season matches to see whether we might see more of this system in action.
