Fantasy EPL Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI
For this article, we use the percentage rostered calculation from Fantrax and Sleeper. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is rostered in 60% of leagues or fewer at the time of writing. Therefore, there's a good chance some of these players will be free agents in your Draft league! As always, we'll take form, fixtures, projected points, and a healthy dose of intuition into account to make our selections.
After GW5's great score, we came back down to Earth with an absolute bang. Mustering only 63 points is frankly laughable; I must do better this week! I will do better (Can you tell I wrote that down 150 times in an exercise book?) Anyways, no clean sheets, only one attacking return will do that to a team. Evanilson's half-volley earned him 11 points on his way to 12.75 for the game, underlining his G/A reliability. Despite that, he makes this week's team too. Christie's 8.5 in a steamroll performance could have easily included one or two attacking returns on shots that just missed the goal or passes that slid in front of the strikers. It looks like whenever I have him in the lineup, he gets a better score. The only other noteworthy performance came from Milenkovic, who got 9, despite conceding a goal and ending up on the losing side of the contest.
The Sleepers XI table below includes a full team of Starters, as well as 5 Reserves - high-upside players with some question marks around whether or not they'll start in Gameweek 5. So keep an eye out when lineups are announced and pick them up if you see them starting, especially if you need to fill a spot on your roster. Read on below for the rationale behind each of the Starter selections.
Kepa (G, Bournemouth)
After Ramsdale dropped the ball for us, we are betting on the most expensive goalkeeper ever in the history of the game. Yes, the one residing in marvelous Bournemouth. Anyone who has watched the Cherries with him in goal knows that his main trait is that he is INVOLVED! He has 17 saves for the season on 23 shots on target with no clean sheets yet, but that is the same as someone like Leno on double the number of starts. Facing one of the freshly promoted teams always brings a great chance of a clean sheet, but his saves are what got him into this team.
Dara O'Shea (D, Ipswich)
We are willing to overlook last week's 4.75 pointer to have the big Irishman continue in our defense especially as they face the worst attacking team in the league right now in the form of West Ham United. I admit it, Big Dara would bring me double joy if he capped his amazing performance this week with a win as not only would he help the Sleepers XI, it would surely push Lopetegui to the brink of the sack, thereby unshackling any and all West Ham assets.
Marco Senesi (D, Bournemouth)
I am going with a double up on Bournemouth here. And while I was betting on a Huijsen start last week that never came, this week, it is Senesi's turn to potentially disappoint me. This is mostly a cleansheet play, as discussed re Kepa, clean sheets are fairly likely vs promoted opponents and with B'mouth shooting willy-nilly, they get a fair number of corners too. Senesi had 4 goals and 5 assists last season, so he definitely has it in his locker to sneak a return, which would be an added bonus.
Lewis Hall (D, Newcastle)
The former Cobham grad has been in and out of the team at Newcastle and is therefore most likely available in your leagues. While he remains droppable if not starting, he almost always manages to put in a decent ghost point performance when called upon. And while Everton are coming off a potentially revitalising performance, they are still... well, Everton, so I expect Newcastle to be able to hold their own even at Goodison.
Dango Outtara (M, Bournemouth)
Dango was somewhat of a surprise starter last Monday in Kluivert's usual spot, but he did not do much wrong and would feel hard done if he lost his spot for this weekend. His 14-point performance doesn't tell the whole story of his industrious outing, which earned him praise after the final whistle. He was involved in most of the attacks and was very dangerous and direct. He has the highest projected score of the whole team, so the onus is on him to deliver and lead the Sleepers back to triple-digit territory. But beware of an early sub for the aforementioned Kluivert.
Jacob Murphy (M, Newcastle)
With Isak confirmed out by Howe, the front line for Newcastle is likely to remain the same as it was last week, with Gordon leading the line and Barnes and Murphy on the flanks. While the Magpies are facing an Everton defense that has been improved by Branthwaite's return from injury, Mykolenko is out, so the flanks are still vulnerable to the attacking wingers. Murphy's 6.5 vs City is an encouraging sign of his ghosting ability.
Mikkel Damsgaard (M, Brentford)
The Dane is becoming a household name in the Sleepers and rightly so. He bags an average of 10 ghosts every game and hoovered up 9.75 and 12.25 ghosts in his last 2 starts. Wolves are unlucky to be bottom of the table but they have conceded the most goals and at the end of the day only have 1 point after 6 games. Brentford will be hoping to kick off the easier part of their schedule with a win vs Wolves. And if Dams could add an attacking return to his already stellar ghosting performance, he will surely be able to bow out of Sleeper XI duty as his rostership will skyrocket (as it should have already).
Omari Hutchinson (M, Ipswich)
Our second former Chelsea youngster in the team, Hutchinson was a sleeper pick during drafts, but took his time to get off the ground scoring-wise, and is thus likely available for pickup in most leagues. He has managed 2 double-digit scores on the bounce and is facing the aforementioned very lacklustre West Ham, whose defensive output is almost as bad as their attack. Ipswich have managed to hold their own in most of their games this season and the draw (that felt like a win) against high-flying Villa will have given them a ton of confidence.
Ilman Ndiaye (F, Everton)
It is not the first time Ndiaye has featured in this team and he has done OK whenever called upon. Newcastle, while a cut above Everton, look far from the side that steamrolled the league to claim a CL spot a few years ago. And while they sit in a decent position in the league, they have looked cumbersome and less than impressive in most of their games. They are definitely not the clean sheet machine they used to be. They also can struggle away from the friendly confines of St James' Park. The front line of Ndiaye, DCL and free-scoring McNeil looks to be kicking into gear as Everton are hoping to put together a decent run of results. We expected Ndiaye to start in the number 10, but they have actually swapped places, with McNeil in that spot and Ndiaye playing mostly on the left wing.
Evanilson (F, Bournemouth)
The Brazilian finally broke his duck last week against Southampton and will be hoping to build on that momentum in the game against Leicester at the weekend. He looks like a player who will be very dependent on attacking returns for fantasy scoring, but he is sharp, quick, and has an eye for goal, so once he gets on a good scoring run, he should provide decent fantasy value - finally.
Timo Werner (F, Tottenham)
Big Ange confirmed that Son is most likely out for this weekend's game and while Werner seems allergic to scoring, I could not pass up an opportunity to include a forward for a team that plays very attacking football. He got 8 points vs United (1 KP, 2 SOT,1 ACNC, 1 DIS, 2 CoS) and was heavily involved in the attack despite Udogie going off injured early on in the game and thus weakening that left hand side of the attack. While Brighton are much better at keeping Clean Sheets this season, the loss of JPVH will surely dent their chances of that and they are still prone to leaving tons of space behind when countered. So Werner should see plenty of opportunities. Hell, he may even have a ball bounce off him for a goal. Stranger things have happened.
