Waiver Wire Gameweek 19

Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Gameweek 19 targets that have 40% rostered or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!

Joseph Gomez (Ros 17%)

Prospects: In the spirit of Christmas, surely anyone with the name Joseph should be rostered! Gomez could be the gift that keeps giving FPts during this festive period. Following an unfortunate collarbone injury to Tsimikas, Gomez should have a clear path to the starting left-back role for Liverpool. Gomez typically plays as a centre-back or right-back, but in his 54-minute cameo as a substitute for Tsimikas, he scored 12 FPts: 1 key pass, 1 shot on target, 4 tackles won, 1 interception, 1 blocked shot, 1 aerial and 4 clearances. Gomez nearly and probably should have scored versus Arsenal, which is quite promising as they visit Turf Moor to face Burnley. In the last 8 home games for all teams, Burnley sit rock bottom having conceded 19 goals, which is the 2nd highest tally of all teams in the league. It's worth noting that Gomez has yet to score a Premier League goal for Liverpool, but even without it the chances at ghost points and a potential clean sheet means he's worth a look. With Andrew Robertson set to return in February, this isn't a position Gomez will hold down long-term, so don't over invest.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (Ros 29%)

Prospects: Since Edouard's injury versus Liverpool in Gameweek 16, Mateta was substituted on during the half-time break and has subsequently played back-to-back 90 minute games for Crystal Palace as the No. 9. During this 2.5 gameweek period, Mateta has scored 49 FPts, which is just over 16 points per game. His points tally comprises 2 goals and 1 assist, while averaging 10 ghost points per 90 minutes. The Eagles now face a lacklustre Chelsea team who are currently in a poor run of form over the last 4 gameweeks, having only won once to go along with three losses. Mateta and the Crystal Palace attack could have a tree-mendous time versus the Blues, especially with the return of their talismen Olise and Eze.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.

Andros Townsend (Ros 11%)

Prospects: After the heartbreaking scenes at Kenilworth Road versus Bournemouth in Gameweek 18, it was anyone's guess how Luton Town would perform on the pitch after losing their captain Tom Lockyer for the foreseeable future. However, Luton Town continue to defy all odds on their home turf as they managed to steal points off yet another Top-6 team in the league, beating Newcastle United 1-0. That being said, we would typically advise against any Luton Town assets when they have an away fixture, but they visit Bramall Lane to take on relegation rivals Sheffield United. This is a massive 6-pointer fixture for both teams as they aim to survive the drop. Although Townsend has only been playing 60-80 minutes over the last 3 gameweeks, he has still been averaging 16 points-per-game with attack returns versus Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United. According to our Fixture Difficulty Tracker, Luton Town midfielders are currently ranked 1st in Gameweek 19. There is, of course, the possibility that Townsend gets a rest with the short turnaround this gameweek, but if he does start this could be a festive feast of FPts for Andros.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.

Dean Henderson (Ros 14%)

Prospects: Henderson signed on a permanent contract during the summer of 2023 for the Eagles after several loan spells away from his boyhood club, Manchester United. Unfortunately, Henderson was injured at the time of his signing and the Eagles had Sam Johnstone as a dependable starting goalkeeper. However, now the latter is injured while the former has regained full fitness. Regardless of which team or season Henderson has played in, he averaged at least 7.5 points-per-game. Over the last two gameweeks, Henderson averaged just over 9 points-per-start, making 12 saves while conceding 3 goals with 0 clean sheets. Crystal Palace visit Chelsea, who have missed the most number of big chances (36) for the season so far and our  Fixture Difficulty Tracker has indicated that Crystal Palace goalkeepers have the 3rd best fixture for Gameweek 19. Yule be sorry if you miss your opportunity to grab a reliable goalkeeper asset while you can.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.

Mikkel Damsgaard (Ros 2%)

Prospects: Damsgaard was a hot prospect when he joined the Premier League last season. Unfortunately, the Dane struggled to stay fit and keep up with the pace of the EPL, having only started 9 games out of 26 appearances while averaging just under 3 points per game. Currently the Bees have been ravaged with injuries to their main attackers and Damsgaard regaining full match fitness could not have come at a better time. Mikkel had his first start of the season versus Aston Villa in Gameweek 17 and scored 11.5 ghost points in 67 minutes. This impressive appearance included 1 key pass, 1 shot on target, 3 tackles won, 1 accurate-cross-not-corner, 1 interception, 1 successful dribble and 1 aerial. Although Damsgaard didn't dominate the attacking categories, the spread of his points is promising. So if you need a starting midfielder, especially with players getting injured or being suspended due to yellow card accumulation, Damsgaard could be a great punt versus Wolves. Risk it Fir the biscuit.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
