Fantasy EPL Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI
For this article, we use the percentage rostered calculation from Fantrax and Sleeper. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is rostered in 60% of leagues or fewer at the time of writing. Therefore, there's a good chance some of these players will be free agents in your Draft league! As always, we'll take form, fixtures, projected points, and a healthy dose of intuition into account to make our selections.
Guess what, the system didn't help. In fact, things got worse! Our GW14 team ended up with a measly score of 56.25 FPts, mainly due to the cruel curse of rotation. In net, we went with a different option in Fraser Forster and he turned out to be an absolute gem of a pick with 15.25 FPts, despite the 1-0 away loss to Bournemouth. Only 2 of our 3 defenders started, Chalobah and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the former scoring 6.75 FPts which sadly included a clean sheet and the latter, scoring 3.5 FPts while conceding 3 goals. Our 3rd defender Tete was unfortunately one of our victims of squad rotation as Castagne started in his place. In midfield we had another no-show in Norgaard, while our other 3 midfielders only scored 1 goal between them, which was an own goal by Matt O'Riley (you win this round naysayers). O'Riley still managed to score 6 FPts, which bodes well for his ghost point scoring ability. Doucoure was unlucky to score only 4.5 FPts in a 4-0 win for the Toffees, while Anderson came on as a sub and scored 3.75 FPts in 26 minutes. Finally, our forwards. Two of the three picks started and had the most contrasting scores ever. Felix scored 16 FPts, which included an assist, while Sarr scored 0 FPts, thanks to a yellow card right before being substituted. Mavididi was the third forward from our set, only scoring 0.5 FPts after coming on as a substitute. We can do better. We MUST do better. So back to the drawing board!
The Sleepers XI table below includes a full team of Starters, as well as 5 Reserves - high-upside players with some question marks around whether or not they'll start in Gameweek 13. So keep an eye out when lineups are announced and pick them up if you see them starting, especially if you need to fill a spot on your roster. Read below for the rationale behind each of the Starter selections.
Fraser Forster (G, Tottenham Hotspur)
Albeit a small sample size, Since Forster debuted in GW13, no goalkeeper has saved more shots than him (12). Spurs seems to be capitulating at the moment, while missing some key personnel in their defence, so it's natural that Forster would be kept busy between the sticks. In the past 2 games, Forster has also faced the 2nd most shots (14), only worsened by Lumley of Southampton. Saves are the lifeblood of a dependable GK, so Forster could be a great pick, especially in a London derby versus an in-form Chelsea team.
Dara O'Shea (D, Ipswich)
According to our fixture difficulty tracker, Ipswich DEFs have the best rated fixture in GW15, so it would be make sense to punt on O'Shea as the most likely available asset in your league. His partner in-defence, Greaves, returned to his side in GW14 versus Crystal Palace and the pair were unfortunate to not get another clean sheet this season. Nevertheless, O'Shea still managed to return a healthy 9.25 FPts score, which included a yellow card, which matches his current ghost point production for the season of around 9.5 gPPS.
Jan-Paul van Hecke (D, Brighton)
If you need a bit of a steady defender for your roster, then JPvH is your guy. For the last 6 gameweeks, JPvH has been averaging around 6-7 gPPS, despite the mixed bag of results for Brighton. I would not worry too much about his minutes as he is typically a 90 minute man and the early sub in GW14 was as a result of the Seagulls having to chase the game against Fulham.
Matty Cash (D, Aston Villa)
Typically we would rarely suggest playing an Aston Villa DEF as they're one of the worst scoring options in any given gameweek, but when you're playing Southampton, the worst team in the league, it seems a worthy punt. Especially a defender with Cash's upside potential. In GW14, the Polish DEF registered his first attacking return of the season as well as 21 FPts, his highest score to date. Cash could also be great coverage if you're facing a Digne owner in your league.
Max Kilman (D, West Ham)
In GW14, Kilman managed to put up 22.25 ghost points, despite shipping 3 goals versus Leicester. Over 20 ghosts is absolutely mental. Kilman now faces his old employers in what fantasy managers are dubbing "El Sackico" with both club managers under fire for their recent run of form and season performance so far. So there is lots of pressure for a positive result from both teams. Let's hope that Kilman's 7.5 gPPS is enough to rely on, as a decent supporting member for any roster this week.
Milos Kerkez (D, Bournemouth)
Kerkez has been one of the surprises of the season as he is currently a top 20 scoring DEF asset for the season. It seems as though the Hungarian has finally adapted to life in the Premier League as he has started every game for the Cherries so far. Kerkez has also been starting to get into more attacking positions on the pitch, which is being reflected in his output as well with yet another couple of key passes and ACNCs in GW14 against Spurs.
Kasey McAteer (M, Leicester City)
McAteer has now started back-to-back games for the first time this season after new manager Ruud trusted the young Lion versus a struggling West Ham for his first game in charge of the Foxes. McAteer registered his first assist for the season in GW14, which fuelled his 17.25 FPts score. A great score for only 1 attacking return. Although El Khannouss stole the show with his 30+ FPts score, McAteer is probably the easier route to the Leicester attack and will probably cost you nothing to pick him up. Another attacking midfield option? Yes please.
Mateus Fernandes (M, Southampton)
Mateus is now the top scoring asset for Southampton, despite only starting 11 of the 13 games that he has played this season. He is currently 1st for tackles won (20) and 2nd for successful dribbles (19) for the Saints, which are a bulk part of the reason why the Portugese MID has been averaging around 6.1 gPPS. A dependable MID-5 for any roster.
Tyler Adams (M, Bournemouth)
After an injury riddled time at Bournemouth, the ex-Leeds American midfielder seems to have finally settled into life under his southcoast suitors and even started the last 4 games in a row. Adams has been one of the more impressive steady-eddys this season, especially after his 16 ghost point score against Tottenham. Prior to that, Adams was averaging around 8 gPPS, which is a solid score from your MID-4. If you need to replace one of your studs due to card suspension or postponed games, Adams is very handy. He even had an assist in GW14 ruled out due to VAR, so even attacking returns are a possibility.
Tyler Dibling (M, Southampton)
Here's another Tyler, except he's more of a creator. Dibling would have been available in most leagues after serving his yellow card accumulation suspension versus Chelsea in GW14. In his last appearance versus Brighton, he was arguably the best player on the pitch and managed to put up 9.75 ghost points. It was also the first time this season that the English MID completed back-to-back 90 minute games, which bodes well for his dependability as a MID-4/5. Despite the 3-1 win for the Villains in GW14, they have been looking quite jaded given their Champions League commitments and will probably be rotating a bit given their qualification for the next stage is still up in the air. Dribbling Dibbers against tired legs could be potential fantasy points!
Joao Pedro Ferreira da Silva (F, Nottingham Forest)
Silva a.k.a Grealish's doppelganger has now started 2 games in a row for the first time this season. After his 14 FPts haul in GW13 against Ipswich, it was always going to be hard following that up against the Champions in GW14. We expect the Portugese FWD to get another start versus Amorim's Man Utd, a team that is still finding their feet in a totally new system. Forest have now lost 3 of their last 4 games, after such an impressive start to the season, and will be wanting to steady the ship very quickly. Hence we're banking on Silva and co. to cause the Red Devils some trouble this weekend.
