Waiver Wire Gameweek 12

Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Gameweek 12 targets that have 40% rostered or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!

Odysseas Vlachodimos (Ros 3%)

Prospects: The German-born Greek international finally got his first start of the season for Nottingham Forest in GW11, since his move from Portuguese giants Benfica during the summer. Matt Turner fell victim to his recent fiasco that saw Salah score from well outside the box with ease. Up till GW10, Turner faced the 9th most shots (47), was 11th for saves (32) and ranked 12th for save percentage (68%). The American goalkeeper was averaging just under 7 points per game (PPG) which is fairly decent for any goalkeeper. However, Turner's erratic and unpredictable moments started costing Forest results in the league. Vlachodimos has Champions League experience and is expected to be an upgrade on the American goalkeeper, which could mean an average that is on the better side of 7 PPG. This is a swap that should be considered for managers starting to question their own goalkeepers, such as Areola, in their rosters.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.

Harry Maguire (Ros 21%)

Prospects: I know what you’re thinking, a Manchester United defender?! The club has been in massive turmoil this season, sitting 8th in the table, having conceded 16 goals so far. However, as Erik ten Hag stumbles through results, one of his surprising decisions has been the inclusion of Harry Maguire since GW8. Since then, the England international is one of only three players to have played 90 mins+ per game for the Red Devils and has scored the 4th highest FPTs (36.5). If we were to ignore the disappointing 0-3 home loss to noisy neighbours Man City, where he scored -2 FPts, Maguire has been averaging just under 13 PPG, which includes one clean sheet and two goals conceded, one in each game. During this four game run, Maguire has also been first for aerials (17), blocked shots (5), and clearances (19) for all Man Utd defenders. Next up The Red Devils welcome 17th placed Luton Town, who have only scored 10 goals for the season and whose #9, Carlton Morris, has been struggling up top with 0 goal involvements in his last 5 games. This could benefit Maguire’s chances at defensive points and a possible clean sheet.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.

Valentino Livramento (Ros 4%)

Prospects: Newcastle have had terrible luck with injuries this season, with Dan Burn, who will apparently be out for a few months, the latest addition to the physio room. This leaves the Magpies with up to 10 unavailable players for GW12. Eddie Howe has now lost his 2nd first-choice defender, which means he will have to change a few things tactically and start relying on new additions such as Livramento. Valentino has only started 2 games for the Tyneside club, both in the EFL cup, which included wins versus Manchester City and Manchester United. During those games, Livramento kept 2 clean sheets and registered an assist. Livramento’s most recent inclusion came-about a half-time sub in GW11 versus Arsenal, which saw the young Lion slot into RB, with Trippier moving over to LB. Tino averaged 6.4 PPG when playing for Southampton two seasons ago, but now he is at a much higher performing club, which could unleash his potential to register FPts on both ends of the pitch.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.

Ross Barkley (Ros 8%)

Prospects: Barkley has had an unsurprising start to life in the Premier League again - a midfield asset that scores well but is quite injury prone. However, the positive sign is that the last 2 gameweeks have seen the English MID play 90+ minutes and average just over 10 PPG without any attacking returns. Oddly enough, this only included 1 key pass, which is at odds with his last double-digit haul back in GW4 where he scored 12 FPts with 4 key passes. We are now seeing a more defensive side to Barkley; he registered 5 tackles won, 2 interceptions, 5 clearances, 2 aerials, and 2 blocked shots over the last 2 gameweeks. There are still attacking signs to his game, with 5 successful dribbles and 6 shots, with 2 being on target. If you’re in need of a MID, Barkley is showing MID-3 potential with a considerably high floor.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.

Jamaal Lascelles (Ros 24%)

Prospects: As mentioned above, Newcastle have defensive woes and Lascelles is the safest pick of the lot. It does help that Jamaal is the captain of the club, but with Botman, and now Burn missing, he should pair Schar in GW12 when they visit the south coast and take on Eddie Howe’s old club Bournemouth. Lascelles has started the last 5 gameweeks for the Magpies and registered 3 clean sheets, averaging just under 14 PPG. The Cherries currently sit 18th in the table and have scored the 2nd fewest goals (9) this season, tied with Fulham and Sheffield United. It also helps that Bournemouth have also scored the fewest home goals of the season (4), tied with Burnley, Luton Town, Crystal Palace and Fulham. Good signs for a possible clean sheet for the Newcastle DEF.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.
