We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost Points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 4 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 4 Ghost Point Hunters
Filling in for the always eloquent Ryan Barnes is Tottiandor, hunting for ghosts in the dusty remains of GW3. For this week, we have perennial ghoster, Sir Joe of Lintonshire, new kid on the block Eberechi Eze and a ghoster in disguise Lucas Digne. Honourable mentions include Goalkeepers, who are people too, you know, Mitrovic the Spirit-hunting Serbian and Ruben Neves, in an homage to Ghost Point Hunter extraordinaire, Mr Barnes.
Eberechi Eze
Position: Midfielder
Team: Crystal Palace
Rostered: 94%
Ghost Points Per Start: 8.3
Ghost Points Last GW: 13.5
Prospects: Eze looks like a man possesed and one who has definitely put the past year of disappointment behind him. He is healthy and looking to build on his impressive start in an upwordly-mobile Palace team.
Verdict: It would be very difficult to prise away Eze right now from the manager who most likely got him after the 5-6th round thinking he will bench him for those difficult fixtures. If you can some get him by paying draft day value, do it now!
E-Bear-Air Air-Zair! Remember the name! Eze burst onto the scene as a highly touted prospect 2 seasons ago and he showed flashes of brilliance but was ultimately too streaky to be considered a premium asset. His 21/22 season was effectively a write-off due to injury which meant that he slipped to the mid rounds as a consensus 3rd Palace player off the board. So far, he has been lights out, and that is considering that our Fixture Difficulty Tracker had Palace as the team with the most difficult early season schedule in all the league. You can just imagine what he can offer against "lesser" opposition. The mouth waters.
Lucas Digne
Position: Defender
Team: Aston Villa
Rostered: 99%
Ghost Points Per Start: 10.2
Ghost Points Last GW: 13.25
Prospects: The former premium defensive asset is not immune to life under Stevie G. It is difficult to see how Villa can climb out of a Captain Fantastic-shaped hole they are in, but if they are to succeed, Digne will be integral to their struggles.
Verdict: If, like me, you believe that Villa are at or close to the lowest where they can be, then Digne is a prime buy-low candidate. 10.2 Ghost points per 90 is very well hidden by 6 goals against, 1 own goal, and 1 yellow card as his official Fantrax FP/G shows a pedestrian 3.83.
It is only a matter of time before either Stevie G is sacked or he turns it around, and Villa start being at least as good as the sum of their parts. I am not asking them to better, just to at least be close to equal. Please Steven, hear my cry! Digne has put up great scores only to be masked by the inadequacies of his teammates. It is time to trade him in, suffer through the few more bad games and enjoy the premium defender you are going to have on your roster once Villa return to being decent.
Running down the wing
Whip in an inch-perfect cross to head
Cross, key pass, assist
Joelinton
Position: Midfielder
Team: Newcastle
Rostered: 96%
Ghost Points Per Start: 11.7
Ghost Points Last GW: 11.5
Prospects: Sir Joe already had a brief appearance on GPH in GW1 as an honourable mention, but we could not sideline him anymore. More confident of a starting spot than the the coming of the taxman, the forward turned box-to-box midfielder is enjoying life in Newcastle and he has the points to show for it.
Verdict: Just like Eze, it will be very difficult to trade him in right now, as he has been amazing in the first 3 weeks and there are no signs of him slowing down. The only way you might be able to get him is to include him in a bigger package deal.
What has not been said about the legend that is Sir Joe, First Earl of Lintonshire. The man has a corner office in Ghost Point Hunters HQ and can hunt ghost by merely thinking about it. He was a blocked shot away from completing a higly coveted Full House (equivalent to a Purple Heart for Ghost Point Hunters) in GW1. The most exciting thing about his future prospects is that, he has a defined role in a working system and he is getting great upgrades to attacking talent all around him. The best is yet to come.
Honorable Mentions:
Goalkeepers: Pope, Raya, Henderson, Martinez, De Gea, all had 10+ ghost performances in GW3, keep an eye out for ghosting goalies.
Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham FWD; 13 ghosts): Mitrovic will be great this season, both for goals and ghost points.
Ruben Neves (Wolves MID; 10.8 ghosts): I am contractually obligated to include a Wolves player and Neves is a huge surprise this season. He is uncharacteristically scoring well on a consistent basis and is nailed on.
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Son Heung-Min (Spurs FWD; 2 ghosts): Premium asset, they said, rotation proof they said, does not need penalties to be top goalscorer they said. Well, this all might be true, and for what its worth, we at the Draft Society are the "they" that said these things. However, Son looks like he has started the season with a pair of concrete boots on his feet. He has been sluggish, some might say uninspired, I will say tired. And it shows in his ghost points: 7.3 so far for the season compared to 9.1 last season is definitely not a good sign. Him being the first from the front 3 to be subbed is an even worse sign. Worrying times. However, I am sure that as a Spurs player, the Dr. Peter Venkman Award will still have a prime spot on his mantlepiece along with last season's shared Golden Boot and that Audi Cup from a few years back.
