We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost Points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 37 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 37 Ghost Point Hunters
Ah, the penultimate GW - we're very nearly done with this damn thing. So why not have yet another Double GW and include 3 top 6 teams - along with Chelsea - in it? To be clear, Manchester City, Brighton, Manchester United, and Chelsea all have doubles in GW37. Let's end with a bang. On the big board, we have: Kevin Schade, Trevoh Chalobah, & Jordan Henderson. The second to last Honorable Mention features Renan Lodi, Joel Ward (we love it when our boys do the business), Will Hughes, Willian, & Lewis Hall. Finally, the Dr. Peter Venkman Award goes, largely out of spite, to the shamrock wunderkind and everyone's favorite fantasy asset for some reason, Evan Ferguson.
Kevin Schade
Position: Midfielder
Team: Brentford
Rostered: 7%
Ghost Points Per Start: N/A
Ghost Points Last GW: 11
Prospects: He's bounced in and out of the starting xi since his arrival on English shores. But he's started 4 of the last 6 and should keep his spot over the final 2 weeks of the season.
Verdict: Pick him up & stream this GW if you need a midfield spark.
Amidst the fanfare over Cody Gakpo and Joao Felix, another January transfer went under the radar: Kevin Schade. The German was signed by Brentford from Freiburg on an initial six month loan with an option to buy. There were somewhat high hopes but just like Damsgaard and other Frank signings, it was softly softly for awhile. Now he is being phased in a lot more often, starting several games on the trot.
In these recent cameos, Schadenfreude (hat tip to Sharp for that) has shown both growing pains and flashes of his immense talent. He hasn't yet bagged a goal but he's been close; already seems like a confidence player who is still finding his feet. Fantasy-wise, he has been "meh" - some decent ghosts but not consistency and, again, no attacking returns. Schade has hovered between 7 to 9 points in the majority of his starts. But this past GW was his best ghosting performance yet. He dropped 11 scary scores on a woeful and distracted West Ham, which came from 2 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 2 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs), 1 Successful Dribble, & 4 Aerials. If he can keep this up and potentially pair an attacking return with these ghosts, he could put up a monster this weekend. He should be worth the punt. And looking further ahead, Schade could provide sneaky value in next year's draft as he looks to replace the suspended Ivan Toney's attacking output.
Trevoh Chalobah
Position: Defender
Team: Chelsea
Rostered: 13%
Ghost Points Per Start: N/A
Ghost Points Last GW: 14
Prospects: Left out in the cold for the past few months. It seems he has a newfound - albeit brief - lease on life under caretaker manager Frank Lampard. He has a DGW but a tricky one - he is not for the faint of heart.
Verdict: Pick him up and stream if you wanna roll the dice in the double v Manchester City & Manchester United.
Where to begin with Chelsea? The Blues have been impossible to navigate this season and their young defender, Trevoh Chalobah, is no exception. He has come in and out of the side - getting only 15 starts so far this season. He has pretty much always been a streamer and that is what we're considering him ROS.
Last time out, Chalobah delivered an impressive 14 ghosties, stemming from 2 Key Passes, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC), 1 Interception, 4 Clearances, 3 Successful Dribbles, 1 Blocked Shot, & 1 Aerial. And he was unlucky to not get credited with an assist. Historically, while Trevoh (love that it's not Trevor) has had purple patches where he nicks some attacking returns (he has some screamer goals on his CV), he doesn't ghost more than 6 points per start on average. So this is likely an aberration. The fact that there are only 2 GWs left and Chelsea has a double (again, albeit a difficult one), however, he becomes tempting. There is a chance he only starts 1 and a cleansheet is unlikely in either game. So Chalobah really needs to continue to ghost. Whether or not to pull the trigger really comes down to your risk tolerance.
Jordan Henderson
Position: Midfielder
Team: Liverpool
Rostered: 32%
Ghost Points Per Start: 5.0
Ghost Points Last GW: 9.5
Prospects: He has nailed down his starting spot (only sitting out the game v Brentford, which would have been too much for his aging legs) and shown decent potential to ghost decently as well as bag attacking returns. And Liverpool's attack is bang in form.
Verdict: Pick him up if you want a piece of the Liverpool freight train.
Jordan Henderson has long been difficult to predict fantasy-wise. While he is always in the middle of the park, he has fluttered between more attacking and more defensive roles, which usually directly correspond to his fantasy prowess. He normally ghosts around 5ish points per start but this fluctuates.
Nowadays he is in one of these mini purple patches (a purple patch for Hendo). At the King Power, he posted nearly double-digit ghosties: 2 Key Passes, 1 Tackle Won, 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC), 4 Successful Dribbles, & 1 Aerial. Given the form Liverpool are in, all attacking assets look attractive, including Henderson. Act accordingly.
Honorable Mention:
Renan Lodi (Nottingham Forest DEF; 16.75 ghosts): Forest fullbacks, am I right? They are a fickle mistress indeed. Aurier and Lodi have interspersed monster ghost point games in with trips to negative town. It's hard to make heads or tails of it. Lodi's rocking a 5.8 gpps so this is an aberration. However, he's shown that he can be a hail mary streamer option ROS.
Joel Ward (Crystal Palace DEF; 12.5 ghosts): We shouted him out last week and he was at it again over the weekend, dropping a tasty dozen and a half ghosties. Our boy is set and forget at this point.
Will Hughes (Crystal Palace MID; 11 ghosts): The Palace midfield outside of the Eze-Olise axis can be a minefield. Schlupp and now Hughes have shown they can do a job. But they can also stink up the place. They are a roll of the dice.
Willian (Fulham FWD; 9 ghosts): The old man's late season revival continues apace. He's also basically set & forget ROS unless you have better options.
Lewis Hall (Chelsea MID; 9 ghosts): He did just enough to tempt managers to call on him for the upcoming DGW. He can ghost and he doesn't have the inherent downside of conceding goals (as he is out position at MID, not DEF). It's still risky, though, whether he starts both and keeps this up.
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Evan Ferguson (Brighton FWD; 1.5 ghosts): Rarely has someone with so much promise & hype delivered so little. And yet the hype and overvaluation continues unabated. This might seem a harsh indictment of young Evan Ferguson. But it is borne out of the annoying experience that is rostering him. The reason for the hype is largely due to his undeniable talent. He passes the eye test already and, given his youth and circumstances, can only get better. And Brighton as a whole have been fantastic and, as we all know, they have been blessed with DGWs out the wazoo. But Ferguson has yet to nail down his spot and has only delivered one solitary performance above 15 points (and he needed a goal and assist to do it). So, to summarize, he is injured/rotated quite a bit (only 8 starts), has trouble with ghosts (gpps of around 4; less than Patson Daka), and doesn't yet score enough attacking returns in those starts (some have come in substitute appearances, making it even more frustrating) to compensate for these shortfalls. Over the weekend, the underwhelming continued (thankfully we started his colleague Enciso over him): one and half ghost points. This came from1 Clearance & 2 Successful Dribbles, partially snuffed out by a dispossession. It is safe to say that Ferguson is one for the future but expect him to drafted way too early next season. Hopefully he looks at this award over the summer when he's in the gym.
