We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost Points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 32 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 32 Ghost Point Hunters
Blank gameweek; let's get weird. Chelsea, Man City, Man United, & Brighton do not have fixtures in GW32, so we'll need to adjust accordingly. These types of gameweeks are all about risk/reward calculations. Can you afford to drop a player in order to try to win this GW? Is your game unwinnable, so you should hold your blanking assets and keep your powder dry? Or are you a lock to win due to your opponent rostering too many undroppable blanking assets? Sort it out. In the meantime, we're here to talk ghosts. We're gonna focus this week largely on low rostered (under 5%) players (the majority of which do not blank this week). In bright lights, we have Chris Mepham, Tosin Adarabioyo, & Julio Enciso. The Honorable Mention section, meanwhile, features the motley crew of Kepa, Jordan Henderson, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, & Kaoru Mitoma. Finally, the Dr. Peter Venkman Award goes to Mr. Inconsistency himself, Joe Willock.
Chris Mepham
Position: Defender
Team: Bournemouth
Rostered: 2%
Ghost Points Per Start: 7.1
Ghost Points Last GW: 13.25
Prospects: Seemingly nailed on as a buccaneering defender and his ghost point form shows that he is usually matchup proof. In a shorthanded week and with a decent matchup against West Ham at home, he'll do a job.
Verdict: Pick him up!
Under the radar ghosting defenders, to use the parlance of our time, are our jam. And Chris Mepham fits the mold. He sources ghosts from all kinds of statistical categories, both attacking & defensive. While the cleansheets have been hard to come by of late, the Cherries can still nick one every now and again. With the Welshman's ghosting prowess, it doesn't really matter.
Mepham has hoovered up 25 ghost points over the past two weeks. Most recently, in a shootout with Spurs, he dropped over 13 scary scores. These came from 1 Tackle Won, Interceptions, 5 Clearances, 9 Aerials, 2 Blocked Shots, & 3 Aerials. Even if it wasn't a blank GW, he'd be worth punt. Add the fact that they have a good matchup against West Ham at home and he becomes a must stream if you're lacking defensive depth.
Tosin Adarabioyo
Position: Defender
Team: Fulham
Rostered: 4%
Ghost Points Per Start: 7.7
Ghost Points Last GW: 18.25 (!)
Prospects: He has started 2 games on the trot. Given that the Cottagers have won both, he should continue to hold down that CB spot. And he has been the best ghosting defender in the league during that stint. He's a no brainer if you need a defender this week.
Verdict: Pick him up!
As mentioned above, we love the "Felipe's" of the world. Defenders who are incredibly active and ghost out of their minds to offset any goals conceded. We're blessed with two this week - Mepham and now Tosin Adarabioyo. The lengthy center half has come in and out of the Fulham lineup but he rarely disappoints fantasy-wise. And we have caught him at a good time, getting the starting nod two games on the trot and delivering the goods on both occasions.
In fact, Adarabioyo has been the best ghosting defender in that stretch, eclipsing his peer Mepham. He has bagged nearly 34 ghosties in the past 2 weeks - impressive stuff. This past GW against Everton he delivered the following: 1 Key Pass, 4 Interceptions, 1 Successful Dribble, 1 Blocked Shot, 8 Aerials. Adarabioyo is out for blood, and Leeds is next on the chopping block. Get wise.
Julio Enciso
Position: Forward
Team: Brighton
Rostered: 1%
Ghost Points Per Start: N/A
Ghost Points Last GW: 14.5
Prospects: Enciso has yet to start a Premier League match. But that might be about to change given injuries. The Seagulls blank this GW, so it will require patience, but the potential reward is there.
Verdict: Pick him up if you have the room this week. If not, earmark him for next week.
The Brighton scouts really have outdone themselves. It seems we hear every week about a new gem they've unearthed. The latest is Julio Enciso, a silky 19 year old Paraguayan attacking midfielder. He has only made brief cameos thus far this season. But his latest one was the best yet. He came on around the half hour mark at Stamford Bridge and scored a worldie from deep - one of the goals of the season.
We'll remember the screamer but the ghosts are what is more impressive (to no one else but us). Enciso posted over 14 ghosts in just over an hour, supplying 2 Key Passes, 3 Shots on Target, 1 Clearance, 5 Successful Dribbles. This bodes very well for the future. He was subbed on early as De Zerbi was forced to shuffle the deck due to injuries to Veltman and Ferguson. Enciso & Brighton, of course, blank this week, and starts may be hard to come by even if these injuries persist. But as we've seen with other Seagull assets, the juice is usually worth the squeeze.
Honorable Mentions:
Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea GK; 22.75 ghosts): What a weird player. The Spaniard has had his ghosting moments this season, to be sure, but he was just coming off a very cold period. Then he popped up for the most ghosts this GW. He blanks this week but will be worth considering ROS.
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool MID; 13 ghosts): Rolling back the years, Hendo was dynamic against Leeds (yes, the opposition is the main caveat), nicking an assist & some ghosts. He has been largely poor this season but in a shorthanded GW against Forest at home, you could do worse.
Pierre-Emile Hojberg (Tottenham MID; 12 ghosts): The Dane has found ghost points very hard to come by lately, so the dozen scary scores he picked up against Bournemouth was a welcome reprieve for his rosterers. This is likely an aberration, however, as his ghost point form has been half that (5.8). Spurs were chasing the game, hence the late ghosts for him and others (particularly Porro).
Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton MID; 10 ghosts): Spite, it's a beautiful thing. The Japanese wizard surely had a point to prove after being granted the Dr. Peter Venkman Award last week and wanted to prove his ghosting bonafides. He certainly did - but so does anyone up against Chelsea. Let's hope it continues.
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Joe Willock (Newcastle MID; 0.5 ghosts): Hello, old friend. Ah, Joe Willock, the persistent enigma. Twenty points one week, under 2 points the next week, and the week after. He's up to his old ways. And we are happy that some things just don't change. Coming off his inevitable purple patch, he has averaged just one ghostie over the past two matches. Against Villa over the weekend, he could only muster a half a ghostie: 1 Tackle Won, which was blunted by 1 Dispossession. This follows a 1.5 point performance v Brentford. Willock will Willock. It's a matter of jumping on the train at the right time but also throwing yourself off that same train at the right time. He still has value given Newcastle's schedule but we don't feel right starting him right now unless you're forced (you just may be this GW) or it's in a double. For us, he's a never again, we just can't handle the swings. But different strokes...
