We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost Points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 27 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 27 Ghost Point Hunters
After a rare single gameweek that has featured the biggest defeat Man United has ever suffered in the EPL and an incredible comeback from title contenders Arsenal, it is only fitting to include players from both teams when discussing ghosts of matches past. Ryan's unfortunate ailment means I get to step behind the curtain once more and see how the magic happens/ghosts are made. So without further ado, here is Totti bringing you Diogo Dalot, the defier of goals conceded, Ethan Pinnock, who we all know is really Neal, and Martin Odegaard, who is definitely Freddy no more. With Oleksandr, the one-named wonder; Alexis, the Lionel of the EPL; and Felipe, the one-named wonder. And the Dr. Peter Venkman Award goes to Pablo Sarabia from Wolverhampton.
Diogo Dalot
Position: Defender
Team: Man United
Rostered: 100%
Ghost Points Per Start: 11
Ghost Points Last GW: 20.5
Prospects: Despite the ghost-pointiness, Dalot's IRL place in the team has been shaky at best. The forgotten man, AWB, has played solidly when given a chance and more importantly, has resembled an actual defender.
Verdict: With the business end of the season approaching fast, it is decision time for Dalot managers. I would either advise getting in AWB for the handcuff or trying to trade Dalot on his ghosting ability and early season form as more rotation is coming.
There have never been questions on Dalot's ability to ghost, he is the second best ghoster in the league this season and I don't expect that to change dramatically ROS. His skillset fits Fantrax scoring perfectly. In fact, he was very close to completing what we call a full house (all scoring categories) against Liverpool. He had 2KPs, 1 SOT, 4 TkW, 1 ACNC, 2 INT, 6 CLR, 2 CoS, and 4 AER. In fact, he was only a blocked shot away from getting into the Full House club. Dalot getting 6.5 points in a 7-0 drubbing is a truly remarkable achievement.
In real life ,though, after the final whistle went, unflattering compilations began to pop up on Twitter about Dalot's calamitous display. AWB has been knocking on the door for more starts, and while great for Fantrax, his performance against Liverpool might have been the final straw to send him to the bench for a few weeks. He was yanked off at HT mid-week v Real Betis & many see an AWB start coming this weekend. You've been warned.
Ethan Pinnock
Position: Defender
Team: Brentford
Rostered: 86%
Ghost Points Per Start: 9.8
Ghost Points Last GW: 12.3
Prospects: Long gone is his first game of the season, a sorry -5.25 points against Liverpool aided by the 5 goals conceded, one of which was his own doing. Since then, he has been a top 10 overall ghoster for the season mainly by virtue of being 7th overall for Aerials won and 3rd overall for clearances. He is about to play 5 games across 3 gameweeks.
Verdict: At this point, you would have to spend an arm and a leg to get him in. If you have spare arms and legs, go for it. Otherwise, hope to hell you are not facing him in the next 3.
Pinnock, or Neal as we like to refer to him, has been a stud since Brentford's promotion. And after an injury-hampered start to the season, he shifted into gear this time around too. He just dropped over a dozen ghosts and he should be a safe bet to continue his aerial heavy ghosting ways over the rest of the season.
Martin Odegaard
Position: Midfielder
Team: Arsenal
Rostered: 100%
Ghost Points Per Start: 8.6
Ghost Points Last GW: 17.5
Prospects: Odegaard is the main man who makes Arsenal's attack click and a few off games before the World Cup notwithstanding, he has been a top 10 (during stretches a top 5) fantasy performer all season. Arsenal have their fate in their own hands and it is time to stand up and be counted. Will Odegaard step up to lead his team to EPL glory? I think he just might.
Verdict: A few weeks ago our very own Robbie suggested that he would endorse trading out Salah to get in Odegaard. While that proposition might sound crazy, it might also just be a shrewd move.
I will gladly eat my derogatory comments from last season about Odegaard when I compared him to the patient zero of unfulfilled potential, Freddy Adu. In my defense, at the time he had put in so many Bambi on ice displays that he temporarily lost his starting spot. Those days are gone and he is proving himself worthy of all the hype. A leader and an extraordinary player with bags of potential he is playing well and, more importantly in this context, ghosting well.
Honorable Mentions:
Oleksandr Zinchenko (Arsenal DEF; 18 ghosts): After numerous attacking return heavy displays, he has recently dipped into the ghosts as well. He is not yet ready for full-article-feature level, but if he keeps this up, he might be soon.
Alexis Mac Alister (Brighton MID; 11 ghosts): Comparisons to Messi are the true indication of how in love the fantasy community is with Brighton and the Argentinian.
Felipe (Forest DEF; 13.5 ghosts): He had been flying under the radar a bit since he is playing for lowly Forest but has ghosting potential.
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Pablo Sarabia (Wolves MID; 0.5 ghosts): We had been saying to be patient with Sarabia. He has looked great in real life since his arrival and most were ready to sent out "I told you so" tweets after the Bournemouth game a few weeks ago. A goal in the next one masked his return to ghostless existence, but Sauron's all-seeing eye has firmly been back on him in the last 2 games in which he managed a TOTAL of 1.5 points in 2 starts. One point of that is last week's clean sheet point. We might have to finally admit, he belongs on the physical plane with the rest of us mortals. Just like for us, for Pablo, the Astral plane remains invisible.
