We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost Points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 22 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 22 Ghost Point Hunters
The cups may provide a brief respite but not for us. GW22 will be here before we know it, so let's hit it. On the big board, it's a mouthful, so we'll do the whole brevity thing: MGW, Badiashile, & Ouatarra. Meanwhile, the Honourable Mention features a lot of defenders, a West Midlands ghost, and a Brazilian debutant; in other words: Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Luke Ayling, Jack Grealish, & Danilo. And in a first for GPH, we're giving the Dr. Peter Venkman Award to the collective Manchester City defense. We like to innovate from time to time, keep things fresh.
Morgan Gibbs-White
Position: Midfielder
Team: Nottingham Forest
Rostered: 76%
Ghost Points Per Start: 8
Ghost Points Last GW: 21
Prospects: Consistent starter and anointed playmaker. The arrival of Scarpa hasn't - yet at least - eaten into his set piece duties. If he keeps this up, he'll be a MID1 ROS.
Verdict: Will be very difficult to trade him in right now, coming off two 20+ outings in a row (believe us, we've tried already). But wait for a down week & try opening with something like Almiron 1:1 or Che Adams + Gallagher.
Wolves supporters have for years been anticipating the season when perpetual starlet, Morgan Gibbs-White, would get an opportunity to show out at Molineux. This was the season, until it wasn't. He made a few appearances with Wolves but was then flogged to Nottingham Forest before the summer window closed. MGW has shown some glimpses of brilliance but has also struggled at times. Fantasy-wise, his set piece dominance has provided a nice floor of points, with the possibility of posting some monster scores when he adds attacking returns.
MGW also has some games where he plain and simply ghosts out of his mind. Case in point, this past GW v Bournemouth, in which he dropped an insane 21 scary scores. These came from 7 Key Passes, 2 Shots on Target, 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC), 1 Interception,1 Clearance, 1 Successful Dribble (CoS), & 1 Aerial. It was against lowly opposition, of course, but this was his second 20+ performance on the trot. MGW is one of a few midfielders that can do this, and will be a valuable player to roster ROS. Hats off.
Benoit Badiashile
Position: Defender
Team: Chelsea
Rostered: 51%
Ghost Points Per Start: N/A (not enough starts)
Ghost Points Last GW: 10.5
Prospects: The new signing has quickly been incorporated into the starting line-up & hasn't put a foot wrong. Expect him to continue to start, with some slight rotation (it's Potter after all).
Verdict: If he's available in your league, scoop him up.
One of the 389 Chelsea signings in the January transfer window, Benoit Badiashile slid a little under the radar. But he might end up being one of the best of the bunch. The young no-nonsense defender has taken like a duck to water in West London, starting back to back games and picking up clean sheets in both. These have been a rarity prior to his arrival. The youngster has injected some much needed solidity to that leaky backline.
More importantly, for our purposes, Badiashile has backed up the cleanies with ghosties. He delivered double-digit ghost points in his first two starts in a new league - an impressive feat. Against Liverpool, his 10.5 scary scores stemmed from the following:1 Key Pass, 1 Shot on Target, 2 Interceptions, 4 Clearances, 1 Blocked Shot, & 3 Aerials. Can ole Benoit keep it up and keep his spot? It's a good start but he does have a fair amount of competition at the spot. When everyone is fit, there are only 3 slots for him, competing with Silva, Fofana, Koulibaly, Chalobah, Cucurella, etc. Given his current form, Badiashile should keep his place and maintain these ghosts. He's one to watch.
Dango Ouattara
Position: Forward
Team: Bournemouth
Rostered: 4%
Ghost Points Per Start: N/A (not enough starts)
Ghost Points Last GW: 10.5
Prospects: The coveted transfer from Lorient in France immediately made his debut v Forest - a good sign that he'll be nailed on. The Cherries have a pretty tough schedule but he's a no brainer punt if he's on your waiver wire.
Verdict: Pick him up!
If you know, you know. While many managers went after shinier toys on waivers this past week, some seasoned vets took a punt on Dango Ouattara. And their faith was repaid. The dynamic winger from France showed a lot of promise with Lorient and also the ability to ghost. Early returns look pretty good.
Ouattara hit the ground running, immediately slotting into the starting RW role v Forest and bagging an assist in addition to double digit ghosties. In total, he accumulated 1 Key Pass, 2 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs), 1 Interception, 2 Clearances, 2 Blocked Shots, & 2 Aerials. Dango was electric, albeit against fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth will need him to keep getting into dangerous positions if they are to stay up. A new striker to link up with - rumours abound - would only further his chances of becoming a FWD2 ROS. If Ouattara can score well in the tough games coming up, we'll keep the faith.
Honorable Mention:
Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United DEF; 27 ghosts): We've run out of superlatives. The guy just sends in accurate cross after accurate cross, racking up points in the process. It's really not fair. He nearly set a ghost point record this GW. Only an injury could derail him now.
Fabian Schar (Newcastle United DEF; 14.5 ghosts): If not for his colleague mentioned above, this beautiful Swiss man would be talked about more. But for those of you who roster him, he's a stalwart at the back.
Luke Ayling (Leeds United DEF; 12.75 ghosts): We called this one. He featured in GPH & Start/Sit last week and we shouted his name from the rooftops in every twitter group chat. Great performance from the pony-tail and he has a tasty DGW upcoming.
Jack Grealish (Manchester City MID; 12.5 ghosts): This past game v Wolves was the first in which Jack looked like his former Villa self - running at defenders, taking chances, and pinging in crosses and shots. And the ghosties flowed. If he can keep this up, we're on board.
Danilo (Nottingham Forest MID; 5.5 ghosts): In his EPL debut, the Brazilian dropped 5.5 ghosts in 45 minutes - one to keep an eye on. He could be the new Cheick Doucoure.
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Manchester City Defenders (Laporte, Akanji, Stones; 10.5 total ghosts): We're making history this week by gifting the award to a group of players, not an individual. This will be your timely reminder that the non-Cancelo/marauding fullback Manchester City defenders really don't ghost well and are, thus, very clean sheet dependent. Most of us know by now that when City dominate the ball - which is basically every game - the opposition doesn't do enough to trigger activity/scoring from City defenders. It's largely clean sheet or bust. This was on full display v Wolves this past GW. The trio above - Laporte, Akanji, & Stones - combined for just over 3 scary scores a piece: 6 Clearances, 4 Aerials, 1 Successful Dribble, 1 Tackle Won, & 3 Blocked Shots. There's your reminder of the frailty of City defenders. Don't make us warn you again.
