Southampton Best Fantasy Players
As noted above, these are the Best Southampton Players for the Fantrax Fantasy EPL platform. We analyze the Saints' top three prospects ahead of the new season, with an estimated draft pick for each player.
James Ward-Prowse
Position: Midfielder
20/21 Points: 412.5 (11th overall)
20/21 Points Per Start: 10.9
Recommended Draft Pick: 30-50 (12 Team League: Round 3 to 4)
Overview: Ward-Prowse played every minute of action this season for the Saints, and will look to build on that and improve his attacking output after only finishing with 8 goals and 7 assists.
Ward-Prowse is Southampton's ironman and can be relied on in fantasy to be a set and forget player. The problem came with some inconsistency this season despite his commanding role on set pieces. His ghost points seemed to have dried up, with him becoming a bit more attacking return reliant. There is every chance Ward-Prowse finished next season with 10G/10A, but I personally would not draft him before Round 4. If you believe in the Saints captain you will probably need to use your third round pick on him due to the scarcity of top midfielders.
Danny Ings
Position: Forward
20/21 Points: 278.5 (59th overall)
20/21 Points Per Start: 10
Recommended Draft Pick: 45-55 (12 Team League: Round 4 to 5)
Overview: Ings managed 12 goals in 26 starts for the Saints this season, but faced an injury riddled campaign.
Ings would be considered a top 20 player if he could stay healthy for a whole season, but it is looking unlikely that he will ever be that type of player. Very injury prone, Southampton may also choose to give him the odd rest this season. I wouldn't be surprised though to see Ings hit the 15 goal mark this season under what surely will be an improved Southampton team. Ings would be a great FWD2 for any fantasy team due to his upside and ability to score against any team. He splits penalties with Ward-Prowse as well giving him an extra boost. If Ings fell to you in Round 5 or later I would consider that great value regardless of his previous injuries.
Che Adams
Position: Forward
20/21 Points: 310 (38th overall)
20/21 Points Per Start: 9.5
Recommended Draft Pick: 95-110 (12 Team League: Round 8 to 9)
Overview: Che Adams had a solid year with 9 goals and 7 assists and will look to build upon that for this upcoming season.
Che Adams actually managed to outscore Ings this season, and should see a similar output this upcoming season. Adams managed 30 starts and could see slightly more next season and become a key man for the Saints. Will we finally see a Che Adams breakout year where he scores 15+ goals? We could very well so, and I would love to take a gamble on the Saints forward. There is every chance Adams falls in your draft due to the quality of forwards or people choosing to draft other Saints assets such as Redmond, Armstrong and Vestergaard over him. I would even reach as high as Round 6 or 7 for the Saints forward.
